My Water Company Experience
Monday night about midnight my son, Buddy, used the bathroom and yelled out, "Mom, why isn't the toilet flushing?" So, waking from my almost sleep I stumbled into the bathroom and tried the handle & . . . nothing, took the top off the tank & . . . empty, kitchen sink . . . nothing. Ok, dig out the phone book & call the water company. The night phone lady told me she would call their emergency guy & have him call me. I had not heard from him by 1:15AM so I called back, she didn't know why he hadn't called me, but she'd call him again. He called about 15 minutes later and asked if I had paid my bill . . . really? Then he asked if I had checked my side of the meter to see if the leak was on my side . . . yes I had walked around outside of my house listening for water, but since it was 1:30 in the morning I couldn't really SEE anything! He informed that all he could do was come out & check the meter . . . . I told him "never mind" & got up at 7AM to call the Water Company. They said they would do a work order and someone would be out "as soon as they could." I (being at this point a little tired and irritable asked her, "Have you had a lot of calls this morning?" "No," she said, "you're the first!" "Then they'll be out soon, right?" "As soon as they can," she said. I hung up and walked out to the meter to see if it was moving at all, it wasn't, but I heard what I thought was an air conditioner running across the road and looked over and noticed a big gushing water fall in the ditch across the road. I called back and told they nice lady, "I found the leak, it's on your side and I would guess that several hundred of thousand gallons have now found their way to the bay at the end of our road." To which she replied, "We'll get someone right out!" They were there within 5 minutes and had it fixed in like 20. The pictures are a little blurry, but it was early and I was tired!
